Voodoo fish etc.

I'm kind of phoning it in today with a short post. You guys hardly ever comment anyway, so my guess is that YOU DON'T CARE AT ALL.

Anyway, here is a story about voodoo fish.

After I had gotten over the sadness I felt after Flipper's death, I decided to wade back into the world of fish ownership. I had sworn never to own another goldfish, because it would remind me too much of Flipper and I just wasn't ready to deal with those emotions.

Plus, goldfish are stupid anyway and I wanted something prettier.

So I decided to try out betta fish.

Betta fish are beautiful colorful things with long, graceful fins. They are also way too hard for me to draw, so here is a picture from the Interweb:

I bought one betta and excitedly set him up in a new tank ... but I didn't know what to name him. I had already used the one good fish name I could think of on Flipper, so I decided to take the easy way out and name the fish after someone I knew in real life. And thus did the voodoo fish come into being.

Everything was going swimmingly with the voodoo fish (hehe see what I did there? Swimmingly???) until one day the little bastard up and died.
Also, did you know that fish don't actually float when they're dead? They sink. At least, that's how I always found them.

I knew I had to make a phone call.

A simple "thank you" would have been nice. I mean, not everyone gets advance warning that they're about to die. Sheesh.

Then I went back to the pet store and bought a new betta fish and named him after another friend, and the whole thing started all over again.

I think my friends were pleased when I grew bored with having bettas, because it was quite stressful for them, never really knowing when I might call and scream "YOU'RE GOING TO DIE" at them.

In totally unrelated news, have you ever noticed that 90% of the time when someone tells you to "calm down," you're completely calm and they're the one that's all crazy and worked up?

I always want to point that out when it happens, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't help.

And there you go. Enjoy your weekend, everyone.

    1. Well, I suppose a completely random non-sequitur comment that consists of a single word is better than no comment at all! :-D

  2. I think its safe to say that Mr. Pants is better than all the pets that have been mentioned on this blog thus far. And the most fortunate...

    1. Hey, it's not MY fault every fish I've owned has sucked at staying alive! I fed them, I cleaned their bowls, I even sang to them ...

Then again, I'm not much of a singer. Maybe that's what did them in.
