Friday Poundings: Pandora FAIL

So I finally got around to using this Pandora thing on my iPhone (which, as you may recall, I acquired recently and hate).

(Mom -- "Pandora" is an app that lets you listen to music through your phone using the Internet. Don't worry about the details there -- it's gypsy magic. But basically, you tell it a band that's of the genre you want to listen to, and it picks other songs that it thinks are similar to what you told it you wanted, and then you either thumbs-up or thumbs-down the songs it picks and the algorithm gets better and better until it really has your tastes perfectly mapped out and you get to listen to a free, almost commercial-less radio station that is designed specifically for you and what you want to hear.)

I was about to start driving to work and wanted a new radio station to listen to on the way, so I didn't really spend much time thinking about what band I would choose to start it off. I just knew I wanted something kind of light, upbeat, acoustic-y featuring some strong lead male vocals.

So I started typing "Philip Philips" since his two popular songs are pretty much exactly what I was in the mood to listen to. And thus was Philip Philips radio created.

But then I quickly discovered that other than those two songs that are popular, most Philip Philips songs aren't that good. I mean, they're not BAD; they're just not good enough to listen to. But because it's Philip Philips radio, Pandora tries to play his songs all the time. Whenever I turn the station on, the first song it picks is always a PP song.

And I always get mad and downvote it and make it play something else.

Other than that, the radio station is really great, though. It is perfectly what I want and I like most of the songs it picks.

I just really wish Philip Philips radio didn't play so much goddamned Philip Philips. That guy sucks.

WHY CAN'T I BE GOOD AT THINGS. PANDORA YOU ARE GARBAGE.

Happy weekend everyone!

  1. Pandora on my phone irritates the living hell out of me. I get two songs and then a commercial, two songs, commercial. If I am lucky, I get FOUR whole songs before hearing about dishwasher detergent. Im better off listening to the radio.

On my PC it is a little better.

  2. Hahah such a random post. :) I have the same issue with pandora all the time!!!!! I'll love a song, create a station around that artist, and BOOM all the other sucks are lame. Or the genre is not super popular, so they just plan the same 10 songs over and over (like my Lumineers station!!). I guess I should just figure out itunes. ;)
